The Standard of  Raleigh, Jan. 20 1864

COMMITTED, TAKEN UP AND COMMITTED

to the jail of Surry County, North Carolina, on the 20th day of October 1863, 
a Negro boy, who says his name is BEN, and says he belongs to JOSHUA ROUSE of 
Lenoir County, North Carolina. Said boy is about 18 or 20 years old, about 5 
feet eight to 10 inches high, dark. The owner is hereby notified to come 
forward, prove properly, and pay charges and take said boy away or he will be 
dealt with as the law directs.
