J W Cox's Child Obituary Transcription: LOADED REVOLVER LEFT AT HOME—BABY DEAD ____________ OLDER CHILD SECURED WEAPON AND ACCIDENTALLY KILLED THE OTHER. ______________ News reached this city yesterday of an accident which occurred on the previous day near Ayden and which cost the life of a three-year old child of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cox who resided near that place. From the information received, it seems that two of the Cox children were left alone at home while their parents went for a visit to town. During the time that they were absent, the older of the two children secured a loaded revolver which had been left around the house and, pointing it at the younger of the two, pulled the trigger. There was a flash and the child fell to the floor with a bullet through its brain. Death was probably instantaneous for the child was dead when the parents returned and the youthful slayer told them that the accident had occurred only a few minutes previously.
