RAYMOND POLLOCK DIES HERE AFTER LONG ILLNESS ____________________________ Funeral Service Scheduled Sunday For Well Known Physician and Surgeon ____________________________ Dr. Raymond Pollock, prominent local physician, died at his home on Middle street Saturday morning at 2:55 o’clock following an illness of eight years duration. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the First Baptist Church by Rev. J. L. Hodges, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist church, Rev. J. Murphy Smith, pastor of First Presbyterian church and Rev. C. E. Parker pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove cemetery. Dr. Pollock was born February 15, 1876 in Kinston, the son of the late Dr. John A. Pollock and Agnes Jones Pollock of Kinston. He attended Horner Military school in Oxford and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1897 and received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical college in Philadelphia in 1899. For nine years he was doctor in charge of the Goldsboro Lumber company and the Richmond Cedar works at Dover and did extensive practice throughout that section. He was married to Miss Agnes Gates Foy, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Foy of New Bern on January 16, 1907, and moved to New Bern to make his home in 1910, having built his present home containing the first home office in the city. Here he did general practice, surgery and X-ray work, having X-ray equipment installed in his office. In 1914, he organized the hospital corps of the Second North Carolina National Guard unit in New Bern and served with the corps for many years, having served with them on the Mexican border in 1916-17. Dr. Pollock volunteered for service during World War I and was in service for two years, serving overseas for 11 months with the 120th Field hospital of the 30th division of the American Expeditionary force. He was surgeon in command of the field hospital at Chateau-Thierry for six months. Survivors are: his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emily Crawford of New Bern and Mrs. Paul Johnstone of Washington, D. C.; one son, Raymond Pollock, Jr. of New Bern; four granddaughters, Miss Karen Crawford, Florence Pollock, Patricia Pollock and Sarah Elizabeth Pollock, all of New Bern; one grandson, Paul Johnstone, Jr. of Washington, D. C.; two nieces, Mrs. Ogden Parker and Miss Agnes Canady of Goldsboro. Active pallbearers for the funeral will be Laurence Stith, Joe Lucas, Hugh Mills, G. R. Burnham, D. M. Parker, Jr., Ray Henderson, Jr., W. F. Gaskins, Jr. and Obed Pate. Honorary pallbearers will be B. O. Jones, Fred M. Scott, M. D. Lupton, Dr. B. E. Moore, John Parker, W. F. Dowdy, W. F. Gaskins, Ray Henderson, D. M. Parker. W. W. Miller, Dr. D. A. Dees and members of the former Hospital corps of the Second National Guard unit. Dr. Pollock was a former member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge, York Rite Masons, Sudan Shrine Temple and Elks Lodge. He was a member of First Baptist church here and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
