Floyd Woodrow “Red” Taylor, Sr Newspaper Clipping Floyd Woodrow “Red” Taylor, Sr Obituary Floyd W. “Red” Taylor, Sr. DOVER, N.C.—Floyd Woodrow “Red” Taylor, Sr. 83, of 14400 Old U.S. 70, Dover, departed this life Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at his home. Mr. Taylor was a retired X-ray technologist, a veteran of World War II, and a longtime member of Dover United Methodist Church. Red was born February 21, 1921, and raised in the Pleasant Hill community. In 1940, he enlisted in the United States Navy and also served in the Fleet Marine Force in the South Pacific. He stood proudly on the shores of Iwo Jima when the American flag was raised in 1945, and was honorably discharged in 1946. When Red returned to Lenoir County, he joined the staff at Parrott Memorial Hospital where he was employed as a laboratory and an X-ray technologist until the hospital closed in 1973. Red was later employed by Lenoir Memorial Hospital and retired from Caswell Center in 1991. Mr. Taylor worked with Boy Scout Troop 41. Red was an avid gardner and sang in the choir at his church. Red was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many in his community. He will truly be missed. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m.Thursday, January 27, 2005 from Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston with the Reverend Leland Heath officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Westview Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Jane Conner Taylor of the home; two sons, Floyd Woodrow “Woody” Taylor, Jr. and wife, Ann, of Dover, N.C., Jeffrey Allen Taylor and wife, Nancy, of Lincolnton, N.C.; a daughter, Janis Taylor Tucker and husband, Eddie, of Dover, N.C.; two brothers, William S. Taylor and wife, Dottie of Punta Gorda, Fla., Clifton D. Taylor and wife, Peggy, of Kinston, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Donald G. Brainard of Kinston, N.C.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Martin and husband, Jeffrey, of Kinston, N.C., Amanda Jane “Mandi” Tucker Elmore and husband, Billy, of Seven Springs, N.C., Christy Nicole Taylor of Dover, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Jenna Nicole Martin and Stephanie Jo Martin, both of Kinston, N.C., Maci Jo Elmore of Seven Springs, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Edwards Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dover United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 188, Dover, N.C. 28526.
