Death and Funeral of 
Mrs. Pattie Taylor,             Jan.  31, 1920
A Well-Known Woman

Mrs. Pattie Taylor, who died here recently after a long period of ill health, was one 
of the best-known women in the city.  Mrs. Taylor resided at 116 E. Peyton Ave.  
She was the widow of  I. Greene Taylor, a well-known farmer of Lenoir County who 
died a few months ago.  She was a member of a prominent family.  The parents 
were the late Lemuel H. Aldridge and Mrs. Eliza Harvey Aldridge.  Mrs. Taylor was 
married to the late J. R. Hill.  She became the wife of Mr. Taylor some years ago.  
Rev. Charles L. Read, pastor of Queen Street Methodist Church and Rev. Marshall 
Grady, pastor of First Baptist Church conducted the funeral and burial services, the 
latter held in Maplewood Cemetery.  Dempsey Wood, John J. Bizzell, Elmer G. 
Barwick, David Dixon, Dr. R. H. Temple and Charles M. Jordan were the pallbearers.  
Mrs. Taylor’s death occurred at 4:20 p.m. Sunday and the funeral was held exactly 
24 hours afterward.  “Near My God to Thee”, a favorite hymn of the decedant was sung.
Mrs. Taylor was a woman of splendid character.  She was popular with a large circle 
of friends.  She was a sister of Mrs. John A. Pollock and a member of Queen Street 
Methodist Church.
Mrs. Taylor had spent an extended time in Florida in hopes of better health during 
recent years.
