Obituary of Annie Ruth Russell ~ 2010

Annie Ruth Russell 

SNOW HILL - Annie Ruth Russell, 87, of Snow Hill, passed away Monday, January 
25, 2010. Annie Ruth was born January 7, 1923, in Candor, Montgomery County, 
North Carolina, to Wil-liam and Millie Martin. She joined the U.S. Navy during World 
War II, and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida where she met her future husband, 
George Russell. They were married on December 2, 1945, shortly after the war ended. 
While residing in Minnesota, their only child, John, was born. Ruth and George moved 
back to North Carolina in 1990, residing in Albertson and later settling in Pink Hill. Ruth 
was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Kinston. She en-joyed and had a green thumb 
for gardening, sewing, and playing the piano and organ. Annie Ruth was preceded in 
death by her loving husband of 61 years George; her parents; brothers James and Jesse; 
and sister Edith. She is survived by her son, John and wife Joyce, of George-town, Texas; 
and grandsons, Brian and wife Chris, of Champaign, Illinois, and Andy of Lubbock, Texas. 
Special thanks to the wonderful staff of Britthaven of Snow Hill, and to Bea, Janie, and 
Chaplain Tim Hopkins of Community Home Care and Hospice of Wilson for their care and 
compassion. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 29 at Pink Hill Funeral 
Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 30 at Pink Hill Funeral 
Home. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park of Pink Hill. In lieu of flowers, 
contributions may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice of Wilson, NC, or to 
Britthaven of Snow Hill, NC, or to Faith Lutheran Church of Kinston, NC. Funeral arrangements
