Obituary of Bertha Thomas "Bert" Lee ~ 1994

BERTHA THOMAS "BERT" LEE:  Kinston - Bertha Thomas "Bert" Lee, 84, of 842 
Westminster Lane, died Tuesday, October 4.  She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Dr. T. Leslie Lee.  "Bert" was an active member of the First 
Presbyterian Church of Kinston, where she served as a deacon and elder.  She 
was awarded an honorary membership in the Women of the Church in 1963, and 
served as treasurer of Albemarle Presbytery.  At the time of her husband's 
death in 1949, she was president of the Auxiliary to the North Carolina 
Medical Society, and was given an honorary life membership in this 
organization in 1964.  She served two terms as treasurer of the Lenoir County 
Historical Society Association, and was an active member and president of the 
Lenoir County Unit of the American Cancer Society.  Funeral services will be 
held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 6, from First Presbyterian Church of 
Kinston, with Dr. Robert W. Ratchford officiating.  Interment will follow in 
Westview Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Lee Jenkins; a son, Thomas Leslie Lee, 
Jr.; three grandchildren, John T. B. Jenkins, III, Patricia Lee Jenkins and 
Thomas Richard Lee, and a brother, James B. Thomas.  The family will be at the 
home of her daughter, Mrs. Patricia Lee Jenkins, 1212 Stockton Road.  In lieu 
of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 2101 N. 
Herritage Street, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1761, Kinston, 
NC 28501.  Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
