Bertie W. Roberson Bertie Arlene Whitley Roberson, 80, of 1229 Cobb Road, died Sunday, October 1, 2000, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker, a devoted farmer’s wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Armenia Christian Church where she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a past secretary with Lenoir County Farm Bureau and retired as a faculty secretary with Lenoir Community College with over 16 years of service. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a member of the Kinston Pilot Club and a member of the Home Demonstration Club of Lenoir County Agriculture Extension Service. She participated in many other church and civic activities. She was the daughter of the late Burl Guy Whitley and Ruby Tuton Whitley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Floyd Roberson, Jr. and her sisters and brothers, Cora Whitley, Bertha Whitley Smith, Sallie Whitley Wetherington, Lucille Whitley Davenport, Burl Whitley, Jr., Frederick Earl Whitley and Helen Marie Whitley. Survivors include three sons, Stanley F. Roberson, Jr. and wife Carol, Gerald W. Roberson and wife Brenda, and (Alton?) Roberson, all of Kinston; seven grandchildren, Leigh Roberson Phillipe and husband Patrick, Gus Roberson and wife Shanna, Whit Roberson, Camille Roberson and Lynn Roberson, all of Kinston, Lauren Roberson and Clay Roberson of Grifton; a brother, Roy Lee Whitley of Dover. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, from the chapel of Garner Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Bostic officiating. Burial will be follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home and other times at home.
