Free Press/Tuesday, August 26, 2003 Billy W. Baker Sr. Kinston – Billy Wayne Baker, Sr., 77, of 1312 Strawberry Branch Road, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003 at Magnolia Cottage Care. Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph during World War II and was a retired farmer in Lenoir County. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Loftin Baker; wife, Faye Sumrell Baker; sister Margaret Branch; brothers Douglas Baker, Newton Baker, John Curt Baker and C. L. “Duck” Baker. Chapel services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003 at the chapel of Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in the Baker Family Cemetery. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah B. Casey and husband, Paul, of Winterville; two sons, Billy Wayne Baker, Jr. and wife, Kaye, of Wilmington and Richard “Marty” M. Baker of Kinston; two sisters, Mary Henderson and husband, John, and Iris Dupree, all of Kinston; two brothers, J. B. Baker and wife, Diane, and Robert Baker and wife Susan, all of Kinston; five grandchildren, Brandy Baker, Whitney Baker, Ricky Baker, Allison Baker, and Elizabeth Casey; and a very special friend, Hilda Flowers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John Curt Baker Scholarship Fund in memory of Billy W. Baker, Sr., in care of Southwood Memorial Christian Church, 1027 N.C. 58 S., Kinston.
