KINSTON - Charles Ballentine Savage, 67, of Sand Hill Township, died at his home on January 21, 2009. Charles was born in Moncks Corner, S.C. on June 2, 1941, to John C. Savage and Lydia Ballentine Savage. He graduated from La Grange High School prior to attend-ing East Carolina University where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. Charles taught at the high school level in Snow Hill prior to becoming a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. He served as Unit Manager of the New Bern office prior to retirement. However, his true vocation involved the outdoors. Always an avid hunter and fisherman, he would entertain family and friends with his adventures. Charles took great pride in his son Tim's athletic adventures and was the Number One fan of the Savannah Mustangs and North Lenoir High School Hawks teams. Charles was best loved for his catering of pre-game meals prior to sporting events and gladly lent his hand to making the team members know that, win or lose, they had support. He was a member of La Grange Christian Church and moved his membership to British Chapel F.W.B. Church in the Sand Hill community. He gladly and peacefully left his earthly home for the biggest "adventure" per his own words, to hunt and fish with those he loved who have left the family circle earlier. He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Lydia Savage of Moncks Corner, S.C.; his son, Charles Ballentine "Charlie" Savage, Jr. of the home; brothers, John C. "Jack" Savage of Charleston, S.C. and Joseph Glenn Joshua Savage of Kinston; father-in-law, J. A. Daughety of Sand Hill; brother-in-law, Alex Ryburn Daughety of Greensboro; nephew, Timothy J. Savage of Van-demere; and his life-long friend, Gilbert Jefferson of Greenville. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Daughety Savage of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kasey Savage of Creedmoor; sister, Yvonne Brown and husband Donald, of Moncks Corner, S.C.; mother-in-law, Estelle Daughety; sisters-in-law, Zana Grant and husband Kenneth, of Sand Hill town-ship and Diane Daughety of Whitsett, N.C.; and by a treasured friend, Wilbur "Buddy" Wig-gins of the Sand Hill community. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. One of his nephews, Jeff Grant of the Sand Hill community was a special blessing as he was a faithful daily caregiver. Charles will be loved and missed by all of his family and friends. We will always remember him as a big man with a big heart who through love and determination turned misfortunes into opportunities to excel. He found obstacles a challenge and met them with a smile. His motto, "follow your dreams and bring family and friends along," will comfort his family in the days to come. The family will receive friends from 6-8 .m. Saturday, January 24, 2009, at British Chapel Church and other times at the home in Sand Hill.
