Dr W A J Pollock Dead One of Kinston's olders and most respected citizens calmly passed away Friday night Dr W A J Pollock died last Friday night about 8:30 o'clock, aged 81 years. Like one drawing the drapery of his couch about him to enjoy peaceful dreams, he passed serenly, to meet his God. He came to Lenoir County in the winter of 1849, cast his lot here and reared his family, and now mingles his dust with the friends gone on before. He was thrice married: to Miss Olive Hunphrey, Miss Eliza Sherard and Miss Anna Loftin. his last wife died about four years ago. Dr Pollock was a man of decided opinions, strong individuality, frank and open, sincere and brave. He leaves five children, great and great grand children. Very few are allowed to see their 81st year-die, waited upon by an affectionate offspring-without fever or pain. Dr Pollock was a familiar figure among us, and his stately carriage and courtly manner will be missed and remembered by many. He embraced the Christian's hope in early manhood and was a member of the Baptist church. He was a successful and beloved physician. "Peace and honor unto him who spent his life ministering unto the sick and afflicted." He was buried Sunday afternoon in the cemtery, Dr H D Harper conducting the services, which were attended by a vast gathering, showing the respect and esteem in which he was held.
