George Washington Sutton The son of John Sutton & Sarah C. Sutton, George was born October 25, 1858. He married Nancy Penny Taylor, daughter of William Green Taylor & Caroline Williams. They were married May 11, 1884 and had five children children: Blanchie Virginia Sutton , Carl Green Sutton, Annie Caroline Sutton, Adele Branch Branch, and Arthur George Sutton. He died October 22, 1939 just 3 days short of his 81st birthday. He is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery. Obit reads:10-22-1939 RITES GEORGE SUTTON HELD MONDAY P.M. The funeral of George Washington Sutton, 81, well-known farmer who died at his home on the Richlands Highway Saturday afternoon was to be held form the home at 2:30pm. with Rev.T.C Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was to be in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. Sutton resided at his birthplace, a short distance from the house in which he died, for 41 years. He spent the remainder of his life less than two miles from his birthplace. He was one of Lenoir County's well-known men. His wife, Mrs. Nannie Taylor Sutton, died some time ago. He is survived by five children: Miss Blanche Sutton, Mrs. Joe Koonce of Trenton, Mrs. Jake Rhodes of LaGrange, and Carl and Arthur Sutton, of Kinston. A sister, Mrs. Etta Hunter, and two brothers, John W. Sutton and Alton Sutton, all of Lenoir County, also survive. These neephews were to be pallbearers: Ben Taylor, Ben Fordham, L.B.
