Free Press/Friday, March 24, 2000 James E. Heath James Elwood Heath, 72, of 2433 Elijah Loftin Road died Thursday, March 23, 2000 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Mr. Heath was a retired mechanical engineer in construction of nuclear plants. He served as a tutor at Southwood Elementary School with Mrs. Pipkin’s class. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodolph and Ruth Huffman Heath; and two brothers, Wilbur Grey Heath and Gerald Heath. Survivors include his wife, Carolina G. Heath of the home; a daughter, Marcia H. Baker and husband, Anthony, of Kinston; a son, Ray Heath and wife Bonnie, of Greenville; four sisters, Merlon “Sissy” Skinner of Kinston, Brenda Dixon of Aurora, Mary Dean Otnes of Portland, Ore., and Ann Eubanks of Trenton; five brothers, Gilbert “Billy” Heath of Ahoskie, W. T. Heath of Oviedo, Fla., Lathan Heath of Jacksonville, Fla., Dickie Lee Heath of Kinston and Rodolph “Buddy” Heath, Jr. of Pollocksville; three grandchildren, Jenni Heath, Chris Heath and Taylor Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Lillie and Dylan Heath. Chapel services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2000 from the chapel of Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Buton officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home. (Pd. Obit.)
