Kinston Free Press — 23 Jul 1898 Mr. J.M. PATRICK DEAD — Mr. J.M. PATRICK died at his home in Institute July 22nd. He was born July 31, 1810, and lacked only a few days of being 88 years old. The burial took place near his residence this afternoon at 4 o’clock, in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends. He was perhaps the oldest citizen of the county, and was one of the best known and most highly esteemed. He was noted for his kindly disposition and his unbounded hospitality. He has lived a long and useful life and has gone to his reward beyond.
