KINSTON - John Ball Burroughs Sr., 85, of Kinston passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Mr. Burroughs was born May 7, 1923, to the late Oliver Berrien and Mary Sue Wilson Burroughs. He served his Country as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and was retired after 32 years as a Civil Engineer with DuPont. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann Foushee Burroughs; daughters, Mary Ann Burroughs Telford and husband John, of Illinois, Susan Holt Burroughs Duff and husband Scott, of South Dakota, Eugenia Brooks Burroughs Byrd and husband Virgil, of La Grange; son, John Ball Burroughs, Jr. and wife Anna Marie, of Maryland; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009, at Westminster United Methodist Church with the Reverend Haywood Smith officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
