Obituary of Julia Brown Jenkins -- 2009

KINSTON - Julia Brown Jenkins, 92, of 906 W. Washington Street in Kinston, went to be 
with the Lord on January 10, 2009. 
 
Mrs. Jenkins was born in Lenoir County in 1916, daughters of Thomas Bradley and Elizabeth 
Jones Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons Douglas Brown Jenkins 
and Bradley Ray Jenkins; and her sister, Annie Brown Johnson. 
 
Mrs. Jenkins was employed for many years in the library at "Grainger High." She retired from 
the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library in 1984. She was a member of Faith Fellowship 
Church. Mrs. Jenkins volunteered as a Pink Lady at Lenoir Memo-ial Hospital for many 
years. She also volunteered with ICOR, the American Red Cross, and served as a caller for 
shut-ins for the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office. 
 
Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Betty Laughinghouse and husband Jack of 
Kinston; a daughter-in-law, Donna Jenkins, of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, David 
Laughinghouse, Mary Moore and husband Marc, Douglas Jenkins, Mary Leigh and husband 
Marc, and Michael Jenkins; seven great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Laughinghouse, Hannah, 
Holly and Jenny Moore, Dylan and Dayton East and Maddox Leigh; special friends, Belle
Burns, Georgia Allen, and the "BOJ" gang. 
 
Funeral services will be held at Howard-Carter Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 13 at 3:00 
p.m. with Rev. Randy Spaugh and Rev. Haywood Smith officiating. Visitation will follow the 
service. A private family burial will be at Maplewood Ceme-tery. 
 
The family would like to express its appreciation to Drs. Pierce and Gallaher, the 3rd and 5th 
floor nursing and physical therapy staff of Lenoir Memorial Hospital. 
 
Family and friends may visit at the home of their daughter, Betty Laughinghouse at 2360 Donnelly 
Road in Kinston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lenoir Memorial Hospital 
Auxiliary at 100 Airport Road, Kinston, NC 28501 in honor of Pink Ladies, Faith Fellowship 
Church at 2278 Pauls Path Road, Kinston, NC 28504 or MDA-ALS Division, "Doug's Dream" at
