Kenneth Edgar Pate,49,of 3975 Daughety White Road died Friday,Sept.19,2003,at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.Mr.Pate was preceded in death by his mother,Helen Small Pate.Mr.Pate was amember of the N.C.State Association of Fire Investigators,Emer- gency Management,and the International Association of Arson Investigators.Mr.Pate was also associated with the Lenoir County Fireman's Association,N.C.Fire Marshall's Associ- ation.N.C. Fire Chief's Association,and a member of the N.C. Building Code Council.He was also a member of the Lenoir County Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Sand Hill Volunteer Fire Department.Mr. Pate worked with the Kinston Fire Department for 23 years and five years as the Lenoir County Fire Marshall.A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. and a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday,Sept.21,2003,at the Kinston Performing Arts Center with the Rev.Rick Vernon,Pastor Gordon Hart and the Rev.Bryant Jones officiating.Burial will follow at British Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife,Sharon Howard Pate of the home;daughters,Amanda Rosales and her husband,Jason, of Jacksonville,Casey Pate of Bridgeton,and Stephanie Jones of Vance- boro;sons Stephen Todd Pate of Kinston and Michael Jones and wife,Michelle,of Kinston; father,Lester W.Pate of Kinston;four sisters,Glinda Kay Pate of Maiden,Kathy P.Howell and husband Luther Jr.,of Kinston,Susan P.Leitz and husband,Bob,of Youngsville,and Lisa P.Stillwell and husband,Charlie,of Kinston;two grandchildren,Alexander Kendall and Victor- ia Kendall,both of Bridgeton;brother-in-law,Stephen Howard and wife,Phyllis,of Kinston; mother-in-law,Elizabeth Howard of Kinston;several nieces;nephews;great nieces and nephews; and a special dog,Princess.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday,Sept. 20,2003,at Howard-Carter Funeral Home.
