KINSTON – Laura Taylor Smith Miller, 101, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Laura was born on Mar. 21, 1902 to the late Council Bryant Taylor and Nannie Holland Taylor of Sandy Bottom – one of twelve children. Mrs. Miller was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables and her most cherished treasure was her family. She was a member of Armenia Christian Church and was preceded in death by her husbands, William Briley Smith and Franklin X. Miller; two sons, Charles W. Smith and Franklin Miller; three grandchildren, Bruce Miller, Sue Marcom Jones and Brenda Smith Taylor; great-granddaughter Melissa Stancill; son-in-law, Earl Marcom; and daughter-in-law, Eva Mae Smith. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Howard Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. Survivors include her daughter, Hazel Smith Marcom of Kinston; three sons, William B. “Billy” Smith and wife, Carol, of Wyse Fork, George A. Smith of Wise Fork and Robert. B. Miller and wife, Jo Ann, of Pleasant Hill; eight grandchildren, Peggy S. Mallard, Joan M. Neel, Laura M. Hussey, Briley Smith, Frank Miller, Al Smith, Beth S. Wilkins and Lisa Stancill; 12 great-grandchildren, Marenda T. Everett, Blake Taylor, Chad and Josh Barwick, Michael and Morgan Noble, Allison, Emily and Caroline Smith, Ginny and Joanna Stancill and Lauran Jones; two great-great-grandchildren, Camden Noble and Courtney Taylor and several step-grandchildren.
