Obituary of Leander Duke Bland ~ 1971

LEANDER D. BLAND.  Leander Duke Bland, 78, of 112 East Grainger Avenue died in 
a local hospital about 10 p.m. Thursday.  He was a retired accountant and 
tobacconist, son of the late Richard E. and Louise Faulkner Bland of Lenoir 
County, a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge Number 4-AF and AM and a member 
of York Rites Bodies, Sudan Temple of the Shrine in New Bern, Queen Street 
United Methodist Church.  He attended Richmond Business College in Richmond, 
Va.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of 
Garner's Funeral Home.  Rev. Harold Leatherman, Methodist, will officiate.  
Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery with Masonic rites.

Surviving are his wife Mrs. Mildred Cox Bland of the home; two daughters, Mrs. 
Willard Rouse of Seven Springs Route 1 and Mrs. G. Robert House of Chesapeake, 
Virginia, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Harry and 
Beck Bland, both of  Kinston, one sister, Mrs. Norwood Bizzell of Kinston.  
Masons will serve as active pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers are Henry and 
Francis Edwards, John Taylor, Joe Paradis Jr., Joe Pharo, Jack Preston, E. W. 
Owens, Jimmy Daughety, Elbert Rouse, Larry Price, Elmer Daughety and Jimmy 
Taylor.
