December 31, 1965. The following obituary appeared in the Kinston Daily Free Press, Kinston, NC. "LEON A. PITTMAN - Leon Alton Pittman, 60, of 1303 Howard Street, died in a local hospital at 5:45 a.m. Friday. He was the son of the late Joseph Sharp and Mary Bland Pittman. He was a drug clerk and an elder of Gordon Street Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted from Godon Street Christian Church at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Fred McCoun, pastor at the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Fulcher Pittman; one son, L. A. Pittman Jr., of Reading, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald E. Petty of Enid, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. W. C. Dixon of Kinston; one brother, Walter Pittman of Grifton; his stepmother, Mrs. Lena Pittman of Penderlea; four half-brothers, Larry, Charles and Quincy, all of Penderlea, and Howard Pittman of Greenville; three half-sisters, Mrs. Sol McGlohon of Penderlea, Mrs. Simon Burney of Ayden and Mrs. Reuben Holt of Charlotte; one grandson, R. E. Petty II. Pallbearers will be J. C. Kennedy, Jerry Leatherwood, Earl Tyndall, Robert E. Lee, Jack Hall and Morris Sparks. The church board members will be honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions are being made to the Gordon Street Christian organ fund. The body will remain at Edwards Funeral Home until one hour before the services."
