KINSTON - Surrounded by her daughter and son, Martha Spencer, of 1519 George Avenue, was called home quietly on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Born May 28, 1933, in Beulaville, N.C. to the late Joe Ray and Cora Ellen Spencer, she received her education in the Duplin County Public School system. Martha later married the late Isaiah Simmons and moved to Kinston in the late 40s. From this union, God blessed her with three children, Doris Mae, who preceded her in death, JoAnne S. Moseley of Fayetteville, N.C. and Isaac Simmons of Philadelphia, Pa. Left to carry on her legacy are Timothy Moseley of Fayetteville, N.C., Anthony Moseley of Charlotte, N.C., Candace Chapman of Kinston, N.C., and Ratesha Chapman of Raleigh, N.C. K'ron Artis, Timothy Najir Jackson and Jhordan Chapman are her great-grandsons. Martha was the sole survivor of triplets. Mary and Lazarus preceded her in death, as did brothers, Eddie, Roy, Alfred, Rayfield (Virginia), and Norwood. In addition, she is survived by brothers, Donnell (Lillie), and Jesse (Thelma), all of Philadelphia, Pa., and by sisters, Lois O. Sanders of Kinston and Janice Redmond also of Philadelphia. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other rela-tives. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Gethsemane, Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1905 Snow Hill Road with Pastor John Pooler III officiating.
