Mattie Marguerite Jenkins Dennis KINSTON - Mattie Marguerite Jenkins Dennis, 95, of Kinston, died Monday, January 18, 2010, at Britthaven of Kinston. She was born August 9, 1914, in Sneads Ferry, N.C. She retired from Glen Raven Mill in Kinston with over 40 years of service. She was an active member as long as she could be at Glen Raven Baptist Church where she sung in the choir and taught Sunday school to the youth for many years. She loved the Lord and her church family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Dennis; her parents, Daniel Joshua and Lucy Jenkins; brothers D. J. and Gordon Jenkins; sisters Velma Collins and Pauline Hall; her son, Kenneth J. Dennis; her grand-daughter, Teresa Asid Oechsler; and her great-grandson, Noah Asid. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Jenkins Asid and husband Phillip Asid, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.) of Ellicott City, Md.; sister Ruby J. Trott of Enterprise, Alabama; grandchildren Betheny Asid, Stephen Asid, Mike Sevell, Donna Lever, Scott Dennis, and Jeff Den-nis. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and also a special niece, Jackie Jones and husband Vince, who were devoted to her. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010, at Edwards Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Womack officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at Edwards Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.
