AYDEN - Ret. Master Sgt. Michael Jay Canady, 51, of 384 Planters St., died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at UNC-Hospital in Chapel Hill. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at Rouse Abundant Life Ministries. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his son, Thomas Smith of Kinston; sisters Mary A. Watkins of Rockingham, Peggy Carney, Jacqueline Smith and Phyllis Dixon of Maury, Erma Long and Dorothy Coward of Washington, D.C., Adell Harrell of Newark, N.J. and Renee Warren of Ayden; brothers Jonas Canady of Hampton, Va., Julius Canady of Ayden, Roy Smith of Greenville, and Alton Smith of Maury.
