MRS.MOLLIE H. FIELDS DIES ON EVE OF 102ND BIRTHDAY
Mrs.Mollie Harvey Fields of Kenly died Monday at 9 o'clock in Wilson Memorial Hospital
following a brief illness.If she had lived until after midnight,she would have reached
her 102nd birthday.
Mrs.Fields was born in Lenoir County October 26,1869.Her parents were Thomas and Eliza
Wiggins Harvey.She was the widow of Bright Fields,who died in 1944.Mr.Fields had been a 
sheet metal worker.
The funeral will be held at ?o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Kenly Pentecostal Holiness
Church.The Rev.Calvin True-- will officiate.Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery,
Kinston.Grandsons will serve as pallbears.
She is survived by two daughters,Mrs.W.F.Dail of Fayetteville and Mrs.Thurman Johnson 
of Kenly.13 grandchildren;22 great-grandchildren;and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs.Fields was the oldest of approximately 8,000 Johnston County residents who draw 
social security benefits.
She was honored on her 100th birthday by friends and townspeople,and on behalf of the 
Town of Kenly,Mayor Gilbert Ray Whitley presented her an engraved plaque commemorating
her 100th birthday and 60 years of living in Kenly.
She received greetings from President and Mrs.Nixon,Congressman David Henderson,and the
Social Security Administration.
She remained active after reaching 100 years,going with a daughter to Bill Moore's Motel
to help change linens.
She was the mother of seven children.
