Tuggle, Nancy Gordon

INDEPENDENCE, Va. - Nancy Gordon Tuggle, 71, went to join the Lord on November 17, 2008; she
passed peacefully in her home in Independence, Virginia.
Nancy was born in Newport News, Va. on June 17, 1937, and grew up in Williamsburg, Va. She
graduated from the Matthew Whaley School in Williamsburg in 1955. She attended Madison College
for two years and then, in 1959, graduated from Richmond Polytechnic Institute (now VCU) with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy.
Nancy was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Independence, where she sang in the church choir. She was active in The Gideons International.
She held office as President of the Grayson County Auxiliary, Area 2 Director in Southwest Virginia, and
the Virginia State Cabinet. One of her greatest pleasures was to introduce someone to Christ by offering
them a copy of God's Word. Nancy was active in her community as the American Red Cross Blood Drive
coordinator for Independence, President of the Friends of Grayson County Library, an EMT on the
Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad, Recording Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of the
Wayne Henderson Music Festival, a volunteer instructor in the Sparta, N.C. Junior Appalachian Musician
(JAM) program, a member of The Highland Camarata, a S.H.A.R.E. volunteer coordinator, a member of the
Galax Women of the Moose and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was a regular contestant on the
mountain dulcimer at local area Fiddler's conventions, winning many awards for her playing. However, her
most cherished performances were providing special sacred music at church and at Gideon functions.
Nancy found her greatest joy in her family, her children and grandchildren and husband - teaching them
through her life, a way to live with a firm belief and faith in God and his redeeming love, and with open hearts,
compassion, fun, adventure, music, and love.
She is survived by her husband Ralph of the home; by four children, Jonathan McGirt of Raleigh, N.C.,
Megan Wiegand of Apex, N.C., Mitchell McGirt and spouse, Frederique of Decatur, Ga. and Murphy
McGirt III of Newport, N.C.; four stepchildren, David Tuggle and spouse Kim, of Petoskey, Mich., Rebecca
Pollock and spouse Niel, of San Diego, Calif., Robert Tuggle and spouse Nancy, of San Diego, Calif. and

Halvorson, Steve

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Steven Halvorson, born June 21, 1971, went home to be with
the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2008. He died peacefully, at his home in Colorado Springs, of
natural causes.
Steven is survived by his wife of 11 years, Alisha; children, Caleb age 9, and Abby age 4; and his parents,
Steven Sr. and Lynne Halvorson; his "uncle John"; aunt Julianna; and nieces, Shelby and Shilo Halvorson
of Roswell NM.
Steven was called to the ministry of Jesus Christ when he was in Junior High, and ever since, he lived his
life in service to his Lord. Steven is a 1989 graduate of Goddard High School in Roswell, NM, and later went
on to Arlington Baptist Bible College where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Youth Ministry. The
light of Steven's life was the time he spent with his family and his ministry to his students. Steven had the
God-given ability to be able to reach to kids that were in need of a friend. Steven will always be remembered
by the hundreds of lives he touched with his wonderful sense of humor, and his powerful teaching of God's
Word. He will be forever loved and forever missed, but those of us who love Jesus are confident that we will
spend eternity with him in the presence of our Almighty God.

Jones, James Gardner

MOREHEAD CITY - James Gardner Jones, formerly of La Grange, N.C., transitioned
from this world on Friday, November 21, 2008, at 2 a.m. at Carteret General Hospital.
His daughter Phyllis and son Michael were at his side as he took his last breaths and
passed away.
James was the son of Marvin and Layunne Jones and spent his childhood in Jason,
N.C. Jason was once a prospering town with a furniture store, post office, and general
store, where you could buy your groceries, send a letter, purchase alcohol, and be
placed in jail all in the same building. Brothers Ben and Jackson and a sister, Ruth,
were also part of James' family and are still alive today. A Korean War veteran, James
started as a journeyman electrician as a young man after returning home from the war.
Later on, James became a foreman with Electricon Inc. in Kinston, N.C, where he
 worked until his retirement.
In the mid 1950s, James met Marilyn Tilghman and they married in November of 1955.
Son James Michael was born in 1957 and daughter Phyllis Carol joined the family on
Christmas Day in 1960. Though James and Marilyn were divorced in the early 1990s,
she remained the love of his life until his passing. James was a man of few words, a
pretty good dancer in his youth and was quick to smile. Though many of his later years
were spent in a Harbor View Nursing home in Morehead City, he maintained his
individualism to the end and his caretakers there appreciated his strength and resilience.
"Jesse James" will be missed by many, especially his children. Though we couldn't
spend as much time with Dad as we would have liked given our locales, we loved him
dearly and will miss him just the same. You did this life well, Dad...rest in peace.
Private services will be held. Funeral arrangements by Munden Funeral Home, Morehead
City. Sign the guest book at www.kinston.com.
