July 24, 1967. The following obituary appeared in the Kinston Daily Free Press, Kinston, NC. "RALPH WALDO BLAND - Ralph Waldo Bland, 64, of 717 Jones Avenue died at North Carolina Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill Sunday of a self-inflicted bullet wound. He was the son of Richard E. Bland and Louise Faulkner Bland of Kinston. He was employed by Southern Life Insurance Co. Funeral services will be held from the chapel at Edwards Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Tuesday with Dr. W. Stanley Potter of Queen Street Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Iola Creech Bland of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Charles B. Staunton of Laurel, Md.; three brothers, Leander, Becton, and Harry, all of Kinston; one sister, Mrs. Norwood Bizzell of Kinston; and one grandchild. The manager and employees of Southern Life Insurance Co. will be honorary pallbearers and include H. E. Pushard."
