August 11, 1954. The following obituary appeared in the Kinston Daily Free Press, Kinston, NC. "RALPH W. BLAND - Ralph William Bland, 33, died in a local hospital Tuesday after suffering a heart attack Sunday night. Funeral services were to be held from Jarman-Howard Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. M. W. Lawrence of Queen Street Methodist Church in charge. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Mr. Bland was employed as an airplane mechanic at Stallings Air Base. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Rutledge; three children, Janie Elizabeth, Esther Faye and Ralph Jr., all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Bland; four brothers, Norman and Jack of Baltimore, Henry O. of Oak City and J. B. Jr. of Dover; four sisters, Mrs. Edger E. Gilbert of Baltimore, Mrs. Joel Adams of New Bern, Mrs. Warren Richardson of Dover and Mrs. Harry Brinkley of Kinston."
