December 19, 1949. Monday. The following obituary appeared in the Free Press, Kinston, NC. "BLAND FUNERAL SET FOR WEDNESDAY: Richard Ervin Bland, 91, a prominent retired farmer, died at his home near Kinston at 12:30 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the home on Greenville Highway, with Dr. Henry I. Glass, local Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be Maplewood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, the former Louisa Faulkner; five sons, L. D., R. F., F. B., H. M., and R. W., all of Kinston; one daughter, Mrs. Norwood Bizzell; one granddaughter whom he reared; Mrs. Willard Rouse of the Moss Hill section; one sister, Mrs. J. H. Albritton of Kinston; six other grandchildren and four great grandchildren."
