KINSTON - Stephen Thomas Humphrey died peacefully at his home, 423 Fordham Road Kinston, N.C. on Sunday June 08, 2008, with his wife of 61 years, Margaret Hill Humphrey by his side. Born October 27, 1919, he was preceded in death by his parents Landon and Deliah Humphrey; also sisters, Essie Creech and Meta Yarborough. A graduate of Grainger High School he also proudly served his country with the Army Aviation, 854 Engineer Battalion, A Company, Spearhearders. He was a member of Lanie's Chapel Christian Church and also a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge # 4 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife Margaret Hill Humphrey of the home; his children, daughter Edith Byrd of Raleigh, N.C., son Steven Humphrey and fianc? Sharon Watkins, of Kinston, N.C., daughter Kathy Weber and husband Wyatt, of Pink Hill, N.C. and daughter Sonoko Humphrey and friend Raymond Wade, of Kinston, N.C. Six grandchildren, Tim Humphrey and wife Christy, of Pink Hill, N.C., Garie Byrd and Drew Whenchel of Ashville, N.C., Joey Humphrey and wife Aubrey, of Raleigh, N.C., Salina Brown and husband Justin, of Pink Hill, N.C., Stephanie Archino and husband Sam, of Bell Arthur, N.C., Waylon Weber of Raleigh, N.C., seven great-grandchildren; brother Wilson Humphrey and friend Jo Strickland, of Kinston, N.C.; and sister, Mary Tripp and husband John, of Lake Norman, N.C. He also had a special caretaker and friend Mary Tyndall. A celebration of his life will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Eddie Phenix officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service at Edwards Funeral Home. The burial will be held at Wayne Memorial Park on Wednesday June 11, 2008, at 10 a.m. with full Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Lanie's Chapel Christian Church, 5333 Hwy 58 North, Kinston, N.C. 28501 or to the Oxford Orphanage 600 College Street Oxford, N.C. 27565.
