Obituary of William C. "Stem" Fields -- 2005

WILLIAM C. FIELDS SNOW HILL -- William C. "Stem" Fields, 64, of 3752 Hwy 13 South, departed 
this life on Friday, April 29, 2005, at his home following an extended battle with cancer.  
Mr. Fields was born September 12, 1940, in Greene County, the son of Edna H. Fields and the 
late, Wilbur W. Fields. He grew up in the New Hope area of Goldsboro and returned to Greene 
County after marriage. He served in the US Army and was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist 
Church. After 28 years, he retired as a truck driver having worked with McLean and Yellow 
Freight. Following his retirement, Mr. Fields worked with the Greene County Sheriff's Depart-
ment for five years.  Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Taylor-
Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Al Sullivan and Pastor Carolyn Cummings-Woriax officiating. 
Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Snow Hill Cemetery.  Mr. Fields is 
survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Jo Shackelford Fields; one son, William Michael Fields 
and wife, Stacey of Winterville; two daughters, Carol Ann Glisson and husband, Billy of Snow 
Hill and Jessica Thomas and husband, Shaun of Winterville; four grandchildren, Casey and Logan 
Fields, and Hailey and Luke Glisson; a brother, Alton M. Fields and wife, Barbara of Goldsboro; 
special-in-laws, Ralph and Linda Whitfield of Snow Hill, Dennis and Kathy Shackelford of Rober-
sonville, and the late, Jesse and Gail Shackelford who were of Hugo; and many special nieces, 
nephews and friends.
