April 9, 1962. The following obituary appeared in the Kinston Daily Free Press, Kinston, NC. "W. C. (DICK) DIXON - William Clarence (Dick) Dixon, 60, of 910 North College Street, died at about noon Sunday at a local hospital following a heart attack. A native of Johnston County and the son of the late Effie Massengill and Major E. Dixon, he had been a barber in Kinston for the past 34 years. He was a member of the Gordon Street Christian Church. Funeral services will be held from Howard and Carter Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Douglas Bell, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, the former Mildred Pittman of Grifton; one son William Clarence Jr., a student at the University of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Baggs of Norfolk, Va., and Miss Mary Dixon of Richmond, Va.,; his step-mother, Mrs. Mary Stevenson of Greenville; two half-brothers, Elton Dixon of Portsmouth, Va., and Burnice Dixon of Newport; two half-sisters, Mrs. Luther Creech of Greenville and Mrs. William Creech of Coats; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dean Grimes, P. H. Pigford, Lynwood H. Heath, Bill Worthington, Raymond Pearson and Arendell Hodges."
