Landmark Of Statesville, N. C. Aug. 24, 1883

The Rutherford College Enterprise says that one day last week while WASH
SETTLEMYRE, colored, was engaged with other hands in making repairs upon the
bridge over the Catawba River between Hickory and Lenoir, a large rock fell
from some of the pillar work, and struck directly on the head, killing him
instantly.
